About Me
The baby book says my first sentence was, “Book Mom,” though it’s not clear if I was asking for one or pointing out one. No matter, it was the first indication that my life would be spent among words—reading them, writing them, watching actors say them and musicians sing them.
I grew up in Akron, Ohio, then a place of rubber factories belching smoke. We moved to the city’s outskirts—without paved roads, sidewalks, mature trees, city water, or city buses, but plenty of cornfields and an apple orchard. School and church (see the blog Baptist Girl) were my joys—both were text-based. I became an English teacher, college reference librarian, copyeditor, freelance writer, published author.
If you must know, I have two advanced degrees, one in library science, and one in theological studies. Only the first led to any career-related options, but the second—my midlife crisis—has brought me great joy and opportunities to serve at my Episcopal church. (See the blog Saints Alive!)
I now live in a small city in southwestern Ohio, where the river and the trees are my delight. Also, the not-very-feral cats that own this cul-de-sac. I am blessed to have two writing partners, one for poetry and one for essays. I’m a member of a monthly book club. (Check out the blog What I'm Reading.) I take classes and dabble in various art media. The collages you see are some of my recent playing.
